The receptionist Carole gets a 10/5 for her service. She was great.
The rooms were good size, but quite dated and needs some good TLC. Not enough (for me) to complain about considering the price.
If you're just passing through and need one night stay it would be fine.
Hadn't been there for a while before today.
The service was top notch, and the food was clean, and delicious.
The atmosphere has improved, and I noticed improvements in progress while I was there.

Love this old pub. The beer garden and restaurant are classic Aussie Iconic must see places. It isn't pretty. Nor is it fancy. It is honest. The team that works hard are always friendly and welcoming. I love The Allen.
Expensive for what it is, dirty and old rooms and furniture, I only stated for a night so I didn't care that much but wouldn't stay for longer. The springs bed was quite uncomfortable and there was no wifi.
However, the location is very close to the Strand which is quite nice and the people at the reception were very friendly.
Location of this place is awesome! Short walk to the beach and The Strand and so many food places right outside the door, we ate in both nights of our stay there though as the food was amazing 🤩. Hubby reckons hands down best chicken schnitty he’s ever had - proper chicken crumbed and cooked to perfection! A coles shopping complex is literally across the road, along with other essentials (bottle shop/chemist/butcher/bakery etc). All the staff are extremely helpful and kind especially the cleaning lady who was super helpful! We stayed in the family suite and it was very spacious and even had our own little courtyard. Only downside was some cleaning stuff was missed but no biggy. Rooms are a little run down but honestly for the price and location I’m not complaining. And the pool was closed during our stay. We had a toaster, microwave, kettle and full size fridge in our Suite which was super handy. The whole place just has such a great vibe about it and would definitely stay again :)
Uber eats order, arrived in a timely manner, . Quality of food was completely shocked. Very over cooked pork cutlet and smaller than my palm, soggy beans chips serving ridiculously small. Paid extra for Gravy and it was missing from my order. So poorly dealt with, a managers job is to support customers when they receive something of such poor quality/quantity. Took 1.5hrs to then be told kitchen closed and she is unable to resolve the issues tonight. Now I will have no dinner. Absolutely appalling. I have been a valued customer for a long time with regular orders. Clearly this was a waste of my time and hotel Allen manager staff do not care. Manager was rude and dismissive, other employee was empathetic and professional on phone.
Location to places for eating and the beach, service was amazing. Massive thank you to the staff whilst i was staying. Rooms were not in good condition though. Everything needs to be updated and you only have a tv, bar fridge and kettle in the room. "NO toaster or cutlery in room". Also extreamly load so not recommended for young kids.
The photos of the room when booking didnt match the room irl. If an update was done to all rooms i would consider another visit.
